[Latest & Greatest] Indie Anthems
E**D
Not Latest, Not Greatest and (Mostly) Not Indie.
As this was published in 2015 and titled "Latest and Greatest indie anthems", you'd have expected the tracks to be indie and at least reasonably new. If so, prepare for dissapointment.7 of the 60 tracks are from the 80's, 14 from the 90's and 32 are from 2000 to 2009. The newest tracks from the remainder were from 2012 (Breezeblocks, Pride, Saturday and Bassline), so three years old at the time of release. So 'Latest' these tracks were not.In terms of style, you've got such 'Indie' artists as 808 State, Groove Armada, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Texas and Orson being represented, alongside arguably rock acts like Fightstar (who get two tracks for some reason) and SixTh. It's a random selection. You get the feeling they had enough material for one cd (disc 1 features a resonable selection and is mainly indie; Editors, Maccabees, Klaxons, Alt-J, White Lies), but had to fill 3 and ran out of steam. By Disc 3, you've got tracks from 1980 by Madness. What is here track selection wise seems very random, as if those compiling really didn't know what they were aiming for and certainly didn't know half the acts. It'll go down as one of the last Indie compilations on cd, but it's a very weak selection and basically not Indie at all.

interesting compilation - contains some singles you, usually, don't find in other similar compilations - consistent and upbeat - setback: few songs of the '80s
