Just as good as the series
My 10-yr old enjoys the show on telly, and I thought I'd take a chance on getting these books. She is not a good reader, never has been despite ALL the efforts from us as parents and her teachers. Today, she put her iPad down on her OWN initiative, and started reading these books. At the end of the day, she requested for more. We are talking a miracle here. I never thought I'd ever hear those words requesting "more of these books, please". Thank you authors, thank you Amazon.

After school
A graphic novel for younger readers, based on the cartoon series 'DC superhero girls.' Do note this is the new version of the cartoon, which aired originally in 2019 and can be found on various tv channels and streaming services, rather than the original one. You can tell this from the logo, which is slightly different. In case you haven't seen the new version - and if you haven't, you are missing out, because it's huge fun! - this involves characters going to school in Metropolis. Said characters juggling their costumed crime fighting lives with their personal ones. The main characters are: Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Bumblebee, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, Zatanna, and Supergirl. But other dc heroes and villains do pop up in supporting roles. This version of the show does adopt a slightly different tone to the original, which you would describe as more quirky humour, in making the characters such. Batgirl is hyperactive, Supergirl is a more typical teenager who uses the word 'Whatever' a lot, and so on and so forth. The level of writing in here would suit eight to eleven year olds when it comes to target age group. However the cartoon, and thus this, are fun enough such as older comic fans who can just enjoy such things and not get sniffy about new versions and the like, can enjoy it as well. This book runs for roughly one hundred and twenty pages. It is divided, via chapter title pages, into six chapters. And it sees the six main characters get into trouble at school because their crime fighting means they are always late for lessons. So they get told to take up an after school club each. Can they find the right ones for them? Can they continue crime fighting at the same time? And will they learn anything in the process? In the meantime, one other girl is rather desperate to be taken seriously....This is a fabulous little book. Because it recaptures the style and spirit of the show perfectly. The art managing to look like the style of the actual episodes. And the writing feels like it could be a tv episode as well. It is fun, it has a lot of humour and great character stuff.it's also clever at character development, as one serious thread running through it gets the right amount of attention to make that work. It never takes precedence, and yet by the end you see what it's been trying to do. You will have learnt something without realising it. Which is cool. As is one movie reference, that probably the grown ups will only get. But never mind.A really fun read, and just the right thing to keep you going till more episodes come along. The book ends with a preview of the next Superhero Girls graphic novel, and one other dc one for younger readers also.

Great gift for a young person
It seems like at least 3rd or 4th grade reading. It should keep the reader interested by having good graphics, too.
