Quickly and easily levels all your stones smooth as glass. I had concern for my softer stones as this looks gritty and harsh in the pics but truly it made my white stones as smooth as wet glass.

Works nicely and quickly on my water stones. On my harder stones it works as well I just have to do more work and it takes a longer period of time. The two most important things I have found are a good lubricant to ensure that particles being worn away are removed readily. If the flattening stone appears clogged anyway then a quick spray with my sink sprayer seems to work fine to bring it back to its coarseness. I am very pleased with the way this works. The flat side is nice for my axes and maul when I want to bring back up to snuff quickly.

What I liked about this stone is that it does work as intended. What I don’t like is that it’s too soft and you go through teeth very quick.

I've had several of my whet stones for years but haven't had a flattening stone in some timeto fix them. Because I generally keep 2 or 3 stones of various types/qualities in each grit I wasn't as concerned with needing to flatten these stones until recently when I took up wood turning and such. Needing to keep my tools very sharp I decided to setup a bench in my shop area dedicated to just sharpening tools/knives.While most of my sharpening is now done with the Wolverine jig for turning tools, I need a few stones to finish tools such as my flat chisels, knives and hand planer blades. That in mind I figured it was time to look for a decent flattening stone.I grabbed one of these and as soon as it arrives set to work on several of my stones. Following the basic instructions for flattening I set about my work and by the end of the morning I had 8 of my stones back in great shape. Enough to be able to sharpen my 22" hand planer blade and not pick up a high/low spot. That was enough to make me happy.It's easy enough to use and shipping was the standard Amazon Prime. Packaging was excellent, it comes plastic wrapped itself and nestled in styrofoam form fitting the stone and the box. The box was then placed into a shipping box and surrounded by the large plastic shipping "pillows." It was one of the better packing jobs I've seen from Amazon in awhile.For the price this is a stone that will get the job done and certainly not break your budget. Obviously there are many other flattening stones out there that are better, but they'll cost you a small fortune. I've had a few through the years, but as well as this one performed I think it's one I'll be keeping around.

Previously purchased a 1000/6000 stone as I am just beginning to sharpen knives with a whetstone. I noticed that the 1000 grit stone had a worn area in the middle. The flattening stone solved that problem within 15 minutes. The sharpening stone is now perfectly flat again. This flattening stone is also good for establishing a new angle on very dull knives. You must have a flattening stone of some type.

They gave dimensions in the description so I was aware this block was going to be smaller than my whetstone. That being said, this thing cuts better than a different brand of leveling stone I also bought on Amazon. Will I use this? Yes. But, I can only use it on my courser stones. It levels those with ease, but it does not level my finer stones. I used the same "wet" process for the finer stones (1000, 6000) as I did with the course stones for about 15 minutes and my grid lines were still present on the stones and I had zero "slush" in the grooves of this leveling stone. Basically, I recommend for course stone leveling but not 1000 grit or above.

I have no complaints at all. After soaking I mark my flat stone with pencil lines and use the flattening stone until they are gone. It works very fast and it helps me to get a good sharp edge on my knife.

There are lots of truing stones out there and they're all designed to do one thing: flatten your whetstone. That's it, nothing to it. This truing stone does just that. The cutting performance is excellent. I was able to full flatten my Shun whetstone in about 30mins. The weight on it is decent heavy which helps in the flattening process. And the durability so far is strong enough that this will last you a lifetime. IIf you have a whetstone, this is a MUST have to help maintain and keep your whetstone flat. The more flat your whetstone is, the more even and consistent your sharpening will be.

I bought this to flatten my whetstones and found out the hard way that there was a piece that was not flat. There was a slight hump on the stone that dug a valley into my whetstone. I grinded down the hump with my dremel and it now flattens properly. Still kind of suspicious as to this products quality, just double check your stone before use.EDIT: They have contacted me and offered a full refund. I am changing my rating from 3 to 4 stars.

Flattens stones easily and is pretty dense and heavy for what you're paying. There may be better options, but this stone is a decent choice between quality and being economical.
