Marmite savory spread

If you’ve never tried marmite, you’re in for a taste surprise. Start with a tiny amount on top of buttered toast. It’s a salty, umami like flavor rich in B vitamins. You’ll love it or hate it so get a small jar to start! If you like soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, you may fall in love with marmite. Try it!

COMES FAIRLY QUICK AND IS WELL PACKAGED! GOOD DEAL!

I love marmite. I’m addicted to the stuff! It’s something you either adore eating or you absolutely hate it. Toast a buttered muffin, add some butter and a thin spread of marmite, and for fans, it’s heaven. The price online is all over the place. Buying it here (if your local grocery doesn’t carry it) can be a tad bit more expensive, but I guess I understand why and I’m glad it’s available. I can’t find it locally. It comes quickly, well packed and a welcome delivery at our house!

Love it or hate it

The slogan is there for a reason. As an American, I had never sampled Marmite (or Vegemite, for that matter) until about a month ago. On vacation in Ireland, I was determined to try the famous divider of palates: once and for all. I was certainly divided by it, but into its supporters! Umami taste mixed with a heavy dose of salt, texture like a smooth syrup--slightly thicker. Slight bitter taste that offsets the rest. Many people have tried to describe it, but one must try it for themselves to truly understand it.After returning to the states, I've been unable to find it in any local grocery store, international or otherwise. Amazon has a fair price on it, and the legendary customer service more than makes up for my inability to find a local source.

Very strong flavor, use like oyster/hoisin sauce

I bought this because of the reviews that its salty and savory. I tried it spread on bread with some butter as that seems the traditional route ... wow was that a bad idea. It's not horrible, just the flavor is so strong as to be over powering. But it gave the strong impression of hoisin/oyster sauce, two sauces I love but would never spread on toast. So I just tried some mixed in with some ground beef the way I would use those two, a little goes a long way. Worked great, the flavor mixed well and added a nice background flavor to the beef. So it definitely has a place in my life, just not with butter and toast, those two are fine on their own.

MSG nightmare, be warned, concentrated free glutamates

I bought this item and last weekend ate quite a lot of it.The savory taste is appealing, yet I have had to educate myself on safe ways to enjoy that taste.Little did I know that my food sensitivity issues would peak shortly after. It began with searing pains in my shoulder, arm and neck. Then a supercell migraine and seizure. It was the most painfully harrowing ordeal of my entire 65 year life. For the first time in my life I was wailing and whimpering uncontrollably, as if tortured. My wife got me to the ER where they gave me IV morphine, then benedryl, then more morphine, then more benedryl. After an hour of blow torch pain, with emergency medical intervention, it started to pass.I am deeply humbled to more careful choices in the future. This product has a cute bottle, quaint ad campaign, and interesting history. However the slogan: "love it or hate it" is not just about taste. If you have an MSG (monosodium glutamate), or any free glutamate sensitivity, stay far away from this stuff. All processed yeast products and many fermented food items, extracts, additives, concentrate free glutamate.Free glutamates function as a neurotoxin and we each have a different threshold of sensitivity.Phantom neck, shoulder or arm pains are the beginning of noticing where your threshold is.Long time, or early life overdose is linked to symptoms of asthma, migraine, autism, ADHD, ALS, MS, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's, to name few. Please save your self if you are sensitive to these chemicals.Educate your self through the web info resources on what to watch for (so much it is in), learn to read and decode food labels, etc. This may not ever surface as an issue for you.All others, please enjoy.Word to the wise.Best Wishes,WV

Less was more

This is totally weird. As I was making my way through my first bell of Marmite I noticed that the product got progressively weaker the deeper into the bell I went. To compensate I had to use a lot more Marmite to get the same effect. When I blew through the first bell I was looking forward to getting the strong stuff at the top again but somehow the new jar was even weaker than the stuff at the bottom of the first. This happened for every single jar. How did they know which order I would open them in? I think the FDA needs to look into this. It's possible that the Hobbit meal this stuff is made from has changed recently. I don't know. All I know is now I use 2 tbsp of this stuff a day and my wife claims it makes me hallucinate. Deng Xiaoping and Andy Rooney disagree.

The real thing!

If you have grown up with Marmite as I have you know that the taste and flavor is authentic and great.People who are new to this product do not realize that only a very small amount need be spread on buttered toast. It’s all about taste and what you might’ve grown up with. Strange to say that I cannot stand peanut butter which is probably the most popular spread worldwide today. I cannot eat it in any form. Give me Marmite any time.
