This was a great buy... for about a month.Do they keep your lunches cold and fresh? Absolutely.Unfortunately, there are a few inherent issues with the product:(1) The new plastic smell never fades. My kids stopped using these because the ice packs emitted a strong plastic smell. We resorted to putting them into plastic baggies -- but really why should I have to put plastic inside of plastic just to make sure a lunch doesn't smell like fresh vinyl. By contrast, we purchased the Komax Ice Packs which not only don't suffer from the fresh vinyl smell, but last significantly longer.(2) The products actually failed after a short period of time. Do I expect these ice packs to last forever? No. But do I expect them to last more than a month? Absolutely.Unfortunately half of the ice packs have already suffered from structural failure. So while the gel is safe and non-toxic, what's true is that if it explodes in your kids lunch box... they aren't going to eat what's in their lunch that day. And last but not least... for some reason... one of the ice packs wouldn't freeze. It would get cold, but never completely freeze through, thereby rendering it useless for what I need it for.

Cracked opened after I froze them. And they SMELL so bad like chemicals I don’t even want to put them in my kids lunch! I bought this 8 pack so I could have many options for kids lunches, school snacks and booboos. I spent more than I was planning on spending but since they seemed like these were exactly what i was looking for I got them. After I froze them the outter layer (there’s two layers) cracked on multiple ice packs. Come to find out the inside layer on two of them also cracked. So i plan on just throwing all of these away now because now I’m just waiting for the others to crack. Also they stick together when frozen so you can even put them next to each other. Even if they didn’t all crack, the SMELL is so horrible i have them next to me right mow to snap a picture and they stink. Throwing them away. Terrible terrible terrible!!!!!

These ice packs smell like oil based paint! Truly awful! I don’t know if the smell is from the plastic bag, the contents or the ink used for the design printing but whatever it is, it’s foul smelling! I washed them carefully with soap and water, dried them, and froze them. The smell was as strong as ever! Then I put each one into a quart size Ziplock Freezer bag.The smell, though not as strong, was still there, so I doubled up on the bags. Better, but the paint smell was STILL there. Thinking I would rather be safe than sorry, especially since these were going to be used with food, I tossed them into the trash can. A total waste of time and money. Sad.

The size is perfect for lunch boxes. I had very high hopes for this product, but I am concerned about the strong chemical odor. Despite the strong mothball odor, I put them into the freezer and packed them with my lunch. I could not eat my lunch because the strong chemical odor conveyed into the food. I decided however to give them another chance by conditioning them, and allowing them to air out. I had purchased a total of eight and I spread them out on my deck. Despite several days of airing in a gentle breeze, the odor persists. Continuing to use them would make me feel like I am contaminating my food. The description said they were chemical free, but that simply cannot be true. Purchasing this product has instilled strong doubts in my mind as to the veracity of any product description on Amazon.

Really wanted to use this to keep breastmilk cold but the smell was so intense. I washed them multiple times. Let them air out. Froze them... the smell still transferred to the bottles of milk. Wasn’t comfortable with it near food/milk. Will return.

I bought these 10 days ago. They have gotten less than 7 days use. 2 of the 4 have already busted in my lunch box for no apparent reason. These are trash do not buy them.

I used the ice pack for my son's lunch bag. I packed smoothies, cheese, and strawberries and the ice pack kept them cold for hours. We've also used it when we went to the zoo and didn't get to eat some of our cheese but they were still cold when we got back home about 6-7 hours later. Love the patterns too. Highly recommend it.

In the beginning I love them. but after one month they all fell apart and begin leaking so I've had to throw every one of them away not a good bargain.. do not waste your money.They get brittle and then they leak. They leak all over your lunch box. What a god-awful mess. They look like snot all over everything.

Awful- they smell like gas as they thaw and then all your food tastes like gas
