I’m a fairly serious hobby level leather worker, and anyone who has ever worked with leather understands how absolutely paramount it is to have razor sharp blades of all shapes and sizes. These whetstones and the included strop have been a godsend, and my tools are all razor sharp because I use this set to keep them in top shape. KEYS FOR SEEING GOOD RESULTS FROM THIS KIT:1) ALWAYS SOAK TILL AIR BUBBLES STOP2) After soaking, use a pencil to draw diagonal zig zag lines covering the entire side of your whetstone you plan on using. Then using the ridged side of the dark grey porous stone to slowly even out the surface of the whetstone. You’ll know it’s even when last of pencil marks are gone. See pics3) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS KEEP POURING WATER OVER THE WHETSTONE WHILE USING. This helps remove the slurry of whetstone goop and tiny metal particles from the honing process.4) After using the stones to hone blades down to the grade of your choice, gently wipe any remaining gunk off the blade and run it a few times down the strop on both sides. This part is SO IMPORTANT for a truly good cutting edge.

To be honest, the request for this review came just a day after the product arrived. There has been no time to evaluate it; however, after having unpacked and examined all the parts, I can say that it is a quality product. It should perform as advertised. Of course, whether or not you achieve the desired results, i.e. a very sharp knife, will depend mostly on your technique rather than the product. So if you watch the video and do as shown, you should end up with a sharp knife using this product. I am looking forward to using it.

I would have given this five stars, but the strop is NOT leather. I find this to be deceptive and dishonest. That said, the stones are top quality. Compared to what I was using, this set is a dream. The size is good, the stands are sturdy and do not slip at all. The angle guide helps with the precision honing at the end when it is really important. I didn't care about the leather strop, but I did care too. It was not a selling point for me. It still burns me that it was NOT leather. Why include it at all? I won't ever use the one included. Please... It is literally made with plastic. Do I really want micro plastic particles finishing off my cutting edge? NO!!! That is the whole point of the strop being LEATHER~! If you really need a strop, invest in a leather one. Don't use this one. I already had a leather strop so not an issue, but what if someone else does not? There is way too much plastic already. Why do this?

Knowing that high quality wet stones are very expensive I got this cheaper set because I am not a professional, so I just need to get a good enough result. After saying that I can add that this set performed very well for me, and I got very sharp edges in my set of knives. So, considering the cost, it is a very good value for the money and very good to start learning the techniques of sharpening you favourite kitchen knives.

Needs my repeated use to improve my use. This kit does NOT automatically/magically sharpen the knives, but I surely appreciate having water stones to work my kitchen knives. I use an oil stone for my chistles, and now these water stones for the kitchen.

Love this set. Stone are high quality and very effective. I am an experiances knife sharpener and these have the ability to sharpen very a dull knife quickly.

This is a high quality and well thought out sharpening kit. It has everything I need including a strop. The bamboo stand ain’t bad either.

Everything was included exactly as pictured. I'm a little unsure about the leather strop, but we will see.Everything has performed as expected (except the leather). The whetstones are stable in wooden holder that is skid resistant, and the stones themselves seem to be of decent quality and I had no issue putting an edge on my pocket knife. The blade guide may be suitable for larger kitchen knives I will say.I recommend this product.
