A must have for every and anybody who loves Indian food and more
I always wonder when I read a book that seems to have been written specially for me. This book covers history of curries through ages and provides recipes from ages ago to modern cuisine. It covers almost all continents, every place "Indians" settled and had to adapt their cooking with what was available on the spot. As well as recipes "stolen" or adopted and adapted by the British or the Japanese. Recipes adapted by Tamils who settled in Malaysia, Biharis who settled in South Africa, others who settled in Guyana, Caribbean, Burma... Each of them you will be wanting to try as soon as possible. With this book, you'll have a solid background of Indian immigration trough time and countries, with origin and history of each recipe as well as the recipes properly speaking.Thank you!

One of my favorite cookbooks
This is one of my favorite Madhur Jaffrey cookbooks and one of my favorite cookbooks in general. The recipes are thoughtfully written, clear, and easy to follow. She has an excellent variety of recipes encompassing diverse flavors and preparation techniques. The recipes don't take too long to prepare and are well worth the effort. I particularly appreciate the unique theme of this book and the historical and cultural information included with the recipes.

A beautiful book all foodies should own
This book deserves all its accolades - I am slowly trying all the recipes. The narrative and ingredient info are a pleasure to read. The book is beautiful- a stitched binding on heavy paper that lies flat without breaking. This would be a perfect gift for anyone who loves to cook. The curries are all very different and absolutely delicious. The recipes are not highly complex - written to make it easy.

My new bible
Interesting and thorough history section and delightful recipes. I bought this book last week and have made three curries from it already... the Thai paneng curry brought a tear to my eye in many ways. I can see myself cooking entirely through this book! Every page has something I want to make, and I daresay I will be entertained in the kitchen for years to come.

Curries good enough to please the zealots!
I was lucky enough to have a friend from the UK host a curry dinner using the recipes from this book. I was blown away by the authenticity of the curries and the ease with which she was able to make them. I was that taken with the quality of recipes I bought my own copy. I haven't been disappointed.Seriously, if you want to taste authentic curries without having to travel to Asia, try this book. Just make sure you buy fresh herbs and spices. I recommend buying smaller amounts, so that you only use what you need. That way the spices don't go stale on you.As the wonderful people in Indonesia and Malaysia say...Selamat Makan!(Good eating!)

A brilliant, practical recipe book/bible.
As soon as this arrived my husband and I were marking out recipes to try. having now tried about 8 of them, I can confirm that they work - and all the ones I have tried have been straight forward. I am looking forward to trying many of the other recipes. I love that there are explanations of the different spices and what can be optional, or substituted. a very useful recipe book

A variaty of curries all in one book
I'm very pleased with the book. The recipes and the pictures are great! And I love reading on the history of the spice route...Being a fan of Thai curries, I would have liked to have seen more in this category. They seemed to have missed my favorite all-time curry: Khao Soi. But that would be my only disappointment....
