Free your mind with the Zappbug Oven 2!
Hey y’all. Like you, I hate bed bugs. They have been a source of major nightmares and PTSD. I also sadly had to seek therapy for not being able to sleep even after the bed bugs were gone. I’ll go over a couple things here, first of all, get professional help. Having someone who deals with these every day and knows how to defeat them is paramount. Also interview treatment companies. I must say that getting a company that does heat treatment coupled with insecticide is so important. Heat alone provides no residual, but chemical alone takes a long time. Having them both together means that you can sleep in your bed after one day of treatment and can know that any stragglers will be beaten by the spray. Many companies offer extended treatment plans and warranties. Here in Greenville SC, Procore pest control offers an indefinite warranty for only $30 a month after treatment and with quarterly spraying. Now for where the Zappbug comes into play. When heat treating you are supposed to remove some items to reduce clutter. If you are in a small apartment like we were, clutter can unintentionally occur just by the volume of belongings. You have to remove some items or the heat won’t be able to permeate some areas. Having the Zappbug and some heavy duty trash bags mean you can treat your items before they are removed. Just place them in the Zappbug, wait until they cook at 120 degrees for at least an hour and then bag them and put them out of the space. For good measure after treatment, I like to zap my items again before placing them back in our space. Now that we are free from bed bugs, we have purchased progressional grade spray and periodically spray our guest rooms to be safe. Additionally we zap our luggage and belongings at the end of any trip whether we stay in a hotel or not. We all love our families, but it can be their homes where we contract bugs even if they don’t know they have them. On a side note the heat units make excellent space heaters. If you have a room that’s cold, simply turn on a Zappbug heater on (just one) and your room will be toasty in 2 minutes. Now buy it and get some sleep!

Bed bug oven
So far, so good. We haven't had bed bugs, but know people who have. Plus we travel with fair frequency and they are everywhere. The bug oven is an insurance policy. It can be REALLY expensive to eradicate if you end up bringing them into your home. It does take up a fair bit of real estate in our garage, but I think it's well spent space. My husband is handy - he can build things and do electrical stuff... he built a simple stand for the oven to sit on - not too high so you can lift suitcases and such into it but keeps it off the epoxied floor of our garage. An "x" shape plywood stand with a top that is big enough for the ovens to sit on opposite sides. Your oven comes with 4 yoga blocks (foam bricks) to make sure the heated air is circulating and you get a sensor to put inside your bags - and then a sensor reader that sits outside the oven - allowing you to see what the temp inside is without opening the oven. We have been able to heat things thoroughly through within about 2 or 3 hours. The heat kills all stages. Haven't seen a single one... but I feel much better about taking things into the house AFTER the oven. You do need to plug in heaters into plugs on separate circuits - or you will pop breakers every time... they also include a heavy duty 25' ft extension cord to make the transition. We leave ours up in order to be more apt to use it - but like I said, we travel quite a lot. So far so good , however, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.

Zap them BEFORE They Bite!
Years ago, when the bed bug panic of NYC was on, my wife and I were so careful - we got a Pack-Tite and became true believers - changed our clothes in the garage and "cooked" everything prior to bringing them in. Then we got complacent and stopped doing it. Then, 4-5 weeks ago after a trip, it happened. What looks like bed bug bites. We've had to take the house apart, have pest abatement, etc, costing thousands. Actually, might have been carpet beetles as well - their larvae can cause a skin reaction difficult to distinguish from bed bugs. Had the house treated for both. In any case, my old Pack-Tite was quite tired and they don't seem to be available anymore. I ordered the extra large Zap Bug on Amazon. What a terrific product. When used properly (not overloading, etc) it usually reaches kill temps within a hour. Excellent design, though how they got it folded into that tiny box will forever remain a mystery to me.In any case, this product works extremely well. Our travel routine now is: change to clean clothes laid out in the garage before we leave, all clothing gets unpacked in garage into plastic bags, then directly into dryer for 1 hour on high (gets to >150 F); and all luggage, shoes, electronics (bed bugs can and do hide in computers) go into the extra large Zap Bug for 1-2 hours depending on Temp (if it gets to 130 which is pretty easy unless it is really cold in garage, then a shorter time - 30-60 minutes at that temp). Once you've had a personal experience with bed bugs or carpet beetles, you will also be a true believer - why not prevent it. Zap Bug - Great Product.
