Great clean-ingredient alternative for laundry

I have used Branch Basics liquid concentrate for making all my household cleaners for a couple of years now. I had not yet tried their powder laundry detergent. This has been an easy switch. I trust the cleaning power of their household cleaners so I was excited to try the detergent.I have 2 young kids who play hard outdoors and can get their clothing quite messy. I would not say that this detergent necessarily works any miracles, though I was impressed by how white my socks were. There is no fragrance, which is important to me for laundry. Everything is odor-free when the wash is over. I even washed 2 very dirty loads of laundry after our recent camping trip and everything came out without lingering stink. It says to use half a scoop for a normal load or 1-2 scoops for large or extra dirty loads. The one time I used 2 scoops, it didn't all wash away from the compartment where the detergent is placed in my machine. I have backed down to 1-1.5 scoops with success. My family tends to have sensitive skin and no one has had any reactions to this. Overall, I'm very happy with this product.

Good laundry detergent but messy to use as a stain remover

I stopped using liquid laundry detergent and switched to powder about a year ago. While I’m very familiar with powder detergents, I’d never tried Branch Basics’ laundry detergent before. I am familiar with the brand and had a good experience with their all-purpose spray, so I thought I’d give their laundry detergent a try.Like my other powder laundry detergent, it was very easy to use. You just pour anywhere from ¾ of a scoop to 2 full scoops in your laundry drum before adding your clothes. The amount you use will depend on how large/dirty the load of clothes you’re washing is. In addition to being easy to use, this Branch Basics detergent also did a good job of getting rid of the stains on my clothes (they were mainly toothpaste and deodorant stains with a few food stains mixed in). It did struggle with a few of the food stains (it got them like 90% out). However, those were pre-existing stains that didn’t come out when I initially washed them using my other powder detergent so the Branch Basics powder actually did what my other detergent couldn’t do.I want to point out that I did also use the powder to pretreat the stains first before I put my clothes in the washing machine. As a result, I can’t speak to whether or not the stains would’ve come out with me just throwing the powder in the machine and not pre-treating anything. However, I’ve found that most of the time you have to pretreat stains no matter what detergent you use. While this powder works great as a laundry detergent and stain remover, I did take a star off because it’s kind of a pain to use it as a stain remover. I followed the directions that were on the back of the bag for pre-treating stains: “Sprinkle directly on stain and spray Branch Basics All-Purpose to saturate powder. Agitate and let sit 5-10 minutes. Do not allow to dry on fabric. Soak if necessary. Wash.” However, I found that whenever I sprayed the all-purpose cleaner over the powder (like the instructions say to), it either blew the powder onto a different area of the shirt (away from the stain) or it just got my shirt really wet and didn’t do anything to dissolve the powder. Since the all-purpose spray wasn’t really dissolving the powder, big powder pieces kept getting stuck in the bristles of the brush I was using to scrub the stains. It also made quite a mess. For background, I normally pretreat my laundry on my bedroom floor. After using the Branch Basics powder to pretreat my clothes, I had to go back and vacuum my room since it left powder all over my carpet. Even though it was a bit of a pain to use and was fairly messy, I am happy with how good of a job it did getting rid of the stains. This is definitely more of a luxury laundry detergent and will be a bit of an investment especially for anyone who has a large family or does a lot of laundry. This Branch Basics detergent is about $0.50 per load (it was listed for $89 when I ordered it and came with two 90 load bags). This price is definitely on the higher end when it comes to powder laundry detergents. That being said, I love the clean ingredients and am very impressed with how well it worked!

So Far So Clean

In the package you get two bags of laundry detergent powder, each one sufficient for 90 high efficiency loads of laundry.I like the idea of plant-based laundry detergent, as well as not purchasing large tubs of laundry goo, so I decided to give this a try. at the current price, It feels like a premium pick, as the cost is around 50 cents per load. Looking around at some of the competitors, a lot of them currently fall in the range of between 20 and 30 cents per load.So far I have washed towels, gym clothes, and my regular work clothes. All of them came clean, and had a very slight but pleasant smell. The product seems to work as intended.I thought that there would be more of a lavender smell, but I didn't really detect one from either the powder itself or from the clothes after being washed. There's nothing negative about that, it's just an observation.I like that the bags have a velcro style closure at the top, which is stronger than the single line Ziploc seals that a lot of others have.Since I have a top loading washing machine, I have been using a full scoop or more for each load. To get 90 loads, you need to use 3/4 of a scoop, which is only appropriate for front loading or high efficiency laundry machines.Overall I am happy with this laundry detergent, although I do feel it is a bit of a premium pick.

Clean, compact, non-toxic, pricey

I've been buying liquid "Free and Clear" detergents of several major brands for sensitive skin for years, as a few members of my family have allergies. I usually add a scoop or half a scoop of washing soda to the load, to boost the detergent's cleaning power and to deodorize the laundry. This powder looked very promising, so I decided to give it a try. This set consists of two 4 lb, 90-load bags of powder (if you use 3/4 scoop for each load). The package is compact, and the scoop is small, so it looks like one bag should last and won't take much room on the shelf, I like that. I am not sure what constitutes a load, as all machines are different. I've done several assorted loads today, including clothes, bedding, delicate underwear and gym clothes, and more. I added 1 whole scoop to most, 3/4 to a smaller one. I also added from 3/4 to one whole scoop of washing soda to each of them, just as I do when I use my usual detergent. All laundry came out clean and fresh, all do not smell, good or bad (just the way I want it), so the powder works, as promised, and it supposedly contains no toxins. The only problem I have with this detergent is the price. My usual detergents, depending on a brand and a current sale, cost me anywhere from 6 to 20 cents per load. This one comes out at nearly 50 cents per load. Non-toxic living doesn't come cheap.
