The only active 802.3af POE extender I’ve tried that actually works

This is a true active 802.3af on both the input and output ports, so this POE extender actually works. You plug a cable from your existing 802.3af POE switch or 802.3af POE injector into the device's input so the extender gets power + data. You can then plug either one or two POE PDs (Powered Devices) like IP cameras or non POE devices into the two outputs and it still works. This last part is key, most cheap POE extenders won’t work if you plug a non POE device into the extender output. You can mix and match POE and non POE devices at the output and it still works.I've got a Amcrest IP8M-T2499EW camera (draws only 4W) plugged into one output port and a non POE unmanaged switch plugged in the other port (no power draw), so the total power is quite low. Under my use case it’s working well for me.Comes with a pair of side brackets and 4 screws to attach to the sides.

Good quality, works like a charm

Needed to add an ethernet connection to a remote network-attached device at my electrical panel but didn't want to add a separate circuit and 120v receptacle to power a standard network switch. Got this and it picked up power no problem from my Juniper EX3300-48P switch from a nearby ethernet run. Seems a little pricy for what this is but it was cheaper and faster overall to use than other options for my scenario.

Best PoE-PD switch on the market

If you're like me (and actually reading this review), then you probably have done some research finding a good PoE-PD switch. What is a PoE-PD switch? A Power-over-Ethernet Powered Device means the switch is powered by the input Ethernet cable. This device does not come with a power supply. It must be powered by the incoming Ethernet PoE port via another switch or a PoE power injector (not included).I just built a new house. The contractor pulled CAT6 wire throughout (I decided CAT6A was too expensive to terminate). In the basement, I have a primary switch (Brocade ICX6610 with PoE) installed in a cabinet along with my router, server, NAS, NVR, etc. The Brocade (Ruckus) switch is protected by large UPS, provides power to my UniFi security cameras, and is rock solid when compared to UniFi's own networking equipment. I decided not to go full UniFi after their security debacle, as that was obviously human stupidity. I am only using UniFi Protect and refuse to run a UniFi network controller.I looked at every brand for a PoE-PD switch, not just on Amazon. The main competitor to this device as of this review is a NetGear and all the reviews say that the product requires device class detection (I have not personally tested it). The CENTROPOWER Outdoor device is good too and appears to be similar (possibly the same switch in a different case; I did test it). You can see my review on it too. Some of my UniFi cameras are new and others are a little older. This switch appears to deliver power to devices based on their power demand, not their device class. I was able to power two UVC-G4-PRO cameras (12.5W each) with this switch when providing power from the Brocade switch at 30W (802.11at class 4) from a single port. I know UniFi offers a switch that does this too (for more $), but again; I'm not running a UniFi network controller.I'm also using this switch for my TV above my fireplace. Having it powered by the incoming Ethernet makes cable management easier. I zip-tied it to the back of my TV and can now use native TV apps plus my Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro. I avoid WiFi for everything unless it's a mobile/tablet/laptop device. You can't stream 4k over WiFi very well anyway.Taking a chance on this device has been worth it to me. I'm buying a few more for other TV's around the house. You won't regret buying this. Feel free to ask me questions in the comments.

Consistent packet loss with this switch

I chose this to power some POE IoT devices within my home, I wanted the devices and switch to utilize POE so they would inherit my network's battery backup. I started noticing some issues with the camera and zigbee device plugged into it but it took me a bit to figure out it was related to the switch. It seems like after a few days, the switch just starts dropping packets. My zigbee network would act irratic or not work at all. The camera connected to it would continuously drop frames. Restarting the switch ended up being the answer, then the devices returned to normal. I ended up putting a basic switch in it's place and haven't had those issues for the past 4 weeks. Unfortunately I'm outside of the return window so I guess it'll just sit in a box till I throw it away. 👎🏻

Works like a charm

These are great little 1:4 POE+ satellite switches. The switch is powered by its ingress port and forwards to the other two ports as well as forwards power through. Perfect for cameras. One thing to note, I had to set my main POE+ switch to 135W mode for the extender to negotiate its power budget. Not that it actually needs that much power. 4 x cameras @ 5W each + 3W for the extender is only ~23W or so in total. And its nice that this is a GigE switch rather than 100MBit switch. Though of course the cameras don't care a whole lot about that.-Matt

Impressive product

Good product and function very well. You can never go wrong with this non-ac powered poe switch. Save time on pulling cable for each camera feeds, all it need is one feed from another poe switch and all 4 cameras can be connected to it cutting down the long runs. One of my ip camera uses a 48v to 12volt splitter and no issue getting power from this unit.Impressive product.

Failed after 3 years

This product worked almost flawlessly (losing connection on a couple times) over the course of 3 years and suddenly died.
